Miller Comes Back from 16 Down to Defeat Middleburg 68-65

1/19/12 - Miller School had a rematch with Middleburg at Alumni Gym that displayed some great future talent on both squads. Middleburg came out hot, gaining a 16 point lead by the middle of the second quarter with the score being 30-14. After a unbelievable half court shot by Josh Majors at the end of the 1st quarter, we regrouped and went on an 18-0 run that featured 5 3 pointers in less than 4 minutes (Cannon had 3, White 1, Jenkins 1) and suddenly we found ourselves up by 1 at the half. It was exciting to watch our resiliency and focus during a critical stage in the game!

The second half was a dog-fight with many lead changes that ensured this game would be close until the end. It was tied at the end of the third quarter, and our seniors led most of the way. Our three bigs - juniors Tony Washington, Aram Martin, and sophomore Markell Lodge - did a much better job their VCU-bound big man, Mo Ali.

Our bigs did a great job offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter to keep us ahead. Tony Washington and Aram Martin displayed a few great moves in the post with great footwork! In the end, we secured a 3 point lead early and held on after a last second three from Middleburg missed the mark. Andrew White led us with 19, Cannon and Jenkins both had 14, and Martin and Washington with 6.

A big step for us was to beat Middleburg, a team we had lost to twice before! Now that we have accomplished that goal, our next big goal is to win down at VSU in the William Lawson Classic against a highly rated Brunswick High, who is 15-1 on the season. We hope to be playing again at VSU, in the state finals!

Highlights will be coming soon.
