After coming out of the gate with a sense of urgency and having a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, we let up a little bit in the second and let Brunswick back in the game and we found ourselves down by one at the break. Brunswick High showed a great deal of patience and discipline that showed why they are the defending state champions in AA.
With an inspiring halftime speech by Coach Willard and our seniors, Miller came out with renewed energy in the 3rd quarter, especially on the defensive end. We also displayed great patience and unselfishness with our offense, hitting the open man and getting to the foul line a bunch, going 11-11 in the third! We grabbed a 15 point lead by the end of the third and never looked back.
Andrew White led all scorers with 24 points, showing his hometown Petersburg why he will be a Kansas Jayhawk next year. Chase Cannon had 16 points with 4 threes in the second half, while also doing a great job defensively versus UVA-bound B.J. Stith. Josh Majors also did a great job offensively, dishing out 4 dimes and getting 6 rebounds. Janeil Jenkins has reemerged as a bundle of energy for us, showing great athleticism and going 9-11 from the line. We as a team went 25-30 from the free throw line!
It was a great win for us and we look forward to bringing that momentum into next week where we have two games - back at our Alumni Gym - versus tough conference opponents LCA (Tue 6pm) and VES (Thu 7:30pm). GO MAVERICKS!!!
