Offensive Outburst Propels Miller to 98-75 Win Over Upper Room

2/19/12 - After a last-second thriller against Bishop O'Connell in the Presidential Hoopfest, Miller turned to its next highly regarded opponent, Upper Room Christian Academy, who sported the #2 guard in the country Rodney Purvis.

After a slow start in the first half, the Mavericks found themselves down 8 and in need of a run - seniors Janeil Jenkins and Chase Cannon delivered with 10 points and two threes, respectively.

In the second half, we played our best offensive half of the season with fantastic shooting and great unselfishness in distributing the basketball. In total, we had 14 threes with over 20 assists! We outscored Upper Room 57-39 in the second half and took control of a game that displayed very even teams. Janeil Jenkins played his most complete game of the season with 19 points, 10 assists, and one fantastic alleyoop courtesy of our other point guard, Josh Majors!

Chase Cannon got back to his usual ways in knocking down NBA range three pointers, amassing 6 for 18 points. Andrew White showed ridiculous accuracy and range, having 4 threes, a few dunks, and 28 points and 9 rebounds. Markell Lodge also followed up with another great performance, having 11 points including our first points of the game - a sensational two-hand jam!

Be on the lookout for these highlights - they are definitely worth waiting for. As some of our guys reminded us coaches, there will most likely be highlights on HoopMixTape as well, since they covered our event. Check them out!

After winning both of our games in DC, we are coming into the VIC tournament with reborn confidence and hope to bring back the VIC championship banner to Alumni Gym. We are the #3 seed and our next game is at VES (Lynchburg, VA) where we will be playing #2 seed VES at 7pm this Thursday - will be a great matchup for us. Hope to see you this Thursday!

(p.s. big thanks to Coach Landseadel for driving the bus through the snow and getting us back safely!)
